Sr. Brenda Marie Brunston, professed first vows as a Sister of the Holy Redeemer on Friday, August 6, 2004. She joins a community of twenty-six perpetually professed sisters in the community’s American Province located in Huntingdon Valley, PA.
Sr. Brenda has ministered most recently at Drueding Center/Project Rainbow, a transitional housing program for single, homeless mothers and their children in Philadelphia. Here, she offered computer classes to the moms and organized a Drama Club for the after-school aged children. As part of her novitiate ministry experiences, Brenda volunteered at Our Lady of Confidence Day School for children with developmental delays and at Thea Women’s Center, a drop-in center for active and recovering drug abusers and prostitutes in the Kensington area of Philadelphia.
Prior to these experiences, Sr. Brenda served in several different ministries including the Holy Redeemer Health System Development Department; Director of the Redeemer Ministry Corps, a full-time, year-long lay volunteer program sponsored by the Sisters of the Holy Redeemer; and in the Activities Department of the Lafayette Redeemer, a retirement community with independent and assisted living as well as skilled care.
Sr. Brenda is the daughter of Robert (Bob) L. Brunston and the late Sarah M. Brunston of Hahira, Georgia. Brenda attended Lowndes High School and continued her education at Gordon College and Valdosta State University with a BFA in Theatre Arts. Sr. Brenda followed up her undergraduate degree with an MA in Theatre from the University of Houston.
Sr. Brenda Marie is serving as a member of the Mission Integration Team for the Holy Redeemer Health System. The Mission Integration team strives to help employees carry out the mission of the Sisters of the Holy Redeemer. She resides with the St. Elizabeth Community in Fox Chase, PA.
