On September 14, the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, two women were welcomed into deeper discernment of their call to religious life with the Sisters of the Holy Redeemer. Kathrin Pies was welcomed as a Postulant and Joan Steinen was welcomed as an Affiliate. These names may be familiar to many of you as both women have been a presence in various parts of the Health System over the past few years. Both Joan and Kathrin first experienced the charism of the Sisters as members of the Redeemer Ministry Corps, under the direction of Eileen Zebrowski.
Kathrin, a native of Cologne, Germany is currently working as a C.N.A. at St. Joseph’s Manor. Kathrin was instrumental in the making of the St. Joseph’s Manor community quilt when ministering during her year as an R.M.C.
Joan brings with her a lifetime of experience as an R.N. who, after retiring, desired to volunteer within a religiously based setting and chose the R.M.C. program. Joan worked for two years in Swainton, mainly with the Healthy Families program. This year she is involved in Pastoral Care at the Hospital.
“The new life coming to the American Province of Sisters of the Holy Redeemer is a testament to God’s abiding love and protection and inspires a renewed feeling of hope and optimism in the Sisters,” stated Sr. Anne Marie Haas, CSR. The diversity of all of the women currently in formation with the Sisters is refreshing. If you feel you may also be called to explore a religious vocation, please feel free to contact one of the community’s Vocation Directors, (215-914-4168), or (215-914-4114).
Other opportunities for participating in the ministry of the Sisters are available through the Associate and Redeemer Ministry Corps programs. For further information about becoming a Redeemer Associate, please contact at 215-914-4113; and for information about the Redeemer Ministry Corps, welcomes your inquiry at 215-914-4116.
“That our lives become fruitful, and that God who began this good work in us will bring it to completion.”
