We, the Sisters of the Holy Redeemer, are women called by the Spirit of God to continue the mission of our Foundress, Mother Alphonse Maria Eppinger, by sharing in a religious community of faith and patterning our lives on the life of Jesus, our Redeemer. Just as Jesus walked among the people, valuing the dignity, uniqueness, and beauty of each person, loving each unconditionally, sharing in their lives and rendering service, so do we share in the human experience of joys and sorrows, hopes and fears. We strive to help individuals to cope with the limitations of the human condition, as experienced in sickness and poverty, and to find meaning in their suffering and dying. By doing this, we witness to the value of redemptive suffering and to our firm belief in the future resurrection of all.
Thus, we are committed to the growth and development of those with whom we live and serve, enabling all to come to a deeper awareness of their own human and spiritual potential. As we minister, we strive to witness to the love and compassion of Jesus in a wholistic manner, being a healing presence to persons of all ages and classes, who are experiencing poverty in its various forms. We do this according to the need of the times, which we, as a Community, continually attempt to discern.
Our source of strength and life is Jesus, the Redeemer of all. We are strengthened in the knowledge of God’s unconditional love for us, and we seek to respond to this overwhelming gift with the gift of our consecrated lives, vowing to live poor, celibate, and obedient. Our prayerfulness is expressed by our faithfulness to personal prayer, daily participation in the Eucharistic Liturgy, and by uniting with the entire Church through the Liturgy of the Hours.
Our commitment is expressed further by our joy, simplicity, compassion, hospitality and recognition of each person’s uniqueness and giftedness. Also, we believe in our call to be stewards of God’s creation, as expressed by our reverence of the earth and responsible care of its resources.
We strive to live the Gospel message of Jesus, looking towards Mary who, in her openness to the Spirit, sought always to respond to the will of God. With Mother Alphonse Maria, we endeavor to relive the Paschal Mystery of Christ and, like her, to draw water with joy from the Springs of the Redeemer. Is 12:3
